So I’m leaning against Waves CLA being the culprit these plugins have been out for 3 years now with no issues that I have been able to find through google. I don’t know what to think now. Last night and this morning the Machine was in the exact same state. Internet was working in both instances. I didn’t close anything from last night. Safari, Apple Mail, Outlook, iTunes, and other programs are open. No spikes today! Sounds good, if Yosemite was the culprit it would be likely the issue would be there all the time, sounds like the problem is related to some external influence.

If you have all those program’s open alongside logic, you should set your OS X System Preferences Sound to use internal mic and speakers. With logic Audio preferences set to use your dedicated sound device. This would mean mail notifications and iTunes will play through your onboard speakers leaving logic using your dedicated device and studio speakers.

I personally wouldn’t have other program’s open when working in logic. TextEdit maybe for notes, Activity Monitor for troubleshooting When working, just logic. LogicPro Atlas – very interesting. The OP has a system similar to mine. If this thing keeps happening I may try those kernel adjustments although that scares me.

Dave – Thanks – You’re probably right about external influences. Next time this starts to happen I will close everything else down – and reboot – and see if there is an impact. I do have other audio devices, but the System Overload problems are happening with the on-board audio. Haven’t tried my other devices yet since this started happening. As for the for the buss techniques – yes I’m using those strategies.

As for my large buffer size – I have run since the start, but couple weeks ago I had an issue with Superior Drummer 2. It was dropping notes all over the place. Tried increasing the Buffer to fix, but finally found that the Cache Mode was inadvertently turning on and Toontrack had a new version to comply with Yosemite.

I never changed the buffer back to I understand your concern. As hinted, I did’nt try it personnally. But that procedure is similar to one that was suggested by Metric Halo support team. Their support and products are notorious reference And makes me wonder how many other users problems today are because of audio devices and drivers.

If you have logic using your sound device onboard and you get a notification or watch a YouTube video with Safari, audio focus is taken from logic for the external program. Once you’re finished watching YouTube and press the spacebar to listen to logic you get cpu Spike as audio focus comes back to logic. I have notifications turned off, my desktop uses the onboard sound chip and logic has a dedicated audio device. I close logic before doing anything else. I may occasionally open safari to read the forum here.

Logic is closed when using iTunes, so if I want to listen to iTunes through my studio speakers, I press Option-Click on the speaker icon on the desktop menu bar and switch the audio device, when done switch it back.

Most logic projects here are 48k if I had iTunes,Safari and notifications 44k constantly switching my sound device back and forth while logic is open, I’d expect problems. When you record external instruments , your computer must take care of a lot of stuff to make everything work seamlessly.

We will explain what this configuration parameter is and how you can set it up correctly later in this article. Plus, there are often processes running in the background such as software updaters and widgets that you may even not know about.

As the Logic Pro X system overload issue is fairly common, solving and preventing it is pretty simple through some easy steps. In this app, you can see and close everything that is active on your computer, as well as filter it by RAM and CPU usage to help you find the most demanding processes.

This is one of the best, most effective solutions to the system overload problem, as MIDI instruments take much more processing power than audio tracks. Keep in mind though that this process is irreversible , so you might want to back up your project before doing it. Another great solution is increasing the buffer range. The buffer range determines how your Mac handles all the processes coming at it.

I just tried the same song after quitting logic and starting fresh, no problem this time. This morning was the first time I had issues in that part of the song. Seems to be rather intermittent. There were other anomalies this morning – our internet service provider was down for a while so maybe Safari was polling the internet and taking away resources. I’m relatively new to Logic – been using it for about a year which is how old this machine is.

It has been rock solid and able to handle just about anything throw at it. This error message is a new thing for me. Update: the problem persists. I reduced cpu load by getting rid of unused tracks and a couple redundant instrument tracks test tracks that were muted. But still have the problem. I am also hearing Trilian glitch every once and a while which is weird. I never had a problem with that before. I’m going to try eliminating plugins and such to see if I can find the cause.

I have a suspicion it might be the Waves CLA plugins as I recently bought them and putting them on quite a few tracks they sound fabulous. Place the Activity Monitor window on the right side of your desktop. Left click on the right side of the Logic window and drag the window making it smaller so you can see Logic and Activity Monitor on the desktop. Once all is settled press the Spacebar to play the project while watching activity monitor. Quit logic and Activity Monitor should settle very quickly.

Then try the same test on a project without any Waves CLA plugins. Then try using your problem project. Yes Safari could have been involved in those problems. Thanks for the detailed troubleshooting instructions. I will continue to figure out what is going on. I had my eyes glued on the CPU meters. I also played another project – same thing. Both projects are loaded with CLA plugins. So I’m leaning against Waves CLA being the culprit these plugins have been out for 3 years now with no issues that I have been able to find through google.

Hi Eric: Thank you for that clarification Hi I’m getting the same thing and it just started happening yesterday. My computer is online all the time while recording and mixing, could this be a problem? I’ll often reference mixes from online while mixing. I have Logic 9 on another laptop and that computer is online as well. I know that Logic will not allow you to operate 2 copies of the same software at the same time on different computers but I’d think Logic 9 on my laptop and X on my studio computer would be fine.

I also only use software that I’ve purchased so that’s not an issue. I am using UA plugs and Wave plugs as well. I’m currently waiting for a response from MOTU about that issue, could this have anything to do with it?

Truth Hurts,,,but you will get better. Right now I have 3 hard drives connected one for Audio recording and 2 for Virtual instruments and their samples. I haven’t upgraded to Yosemite because I haven’t researched if all of mu VI and Plugins are compatible yet, so I don’t want to move until I know there will be no downtime.

Any help would be appreciated. Posted December 10, I have a similar problem, and could use advice. I’m getting a “disc is too slow or system overload” error which just started after upgrading to Yosemite I know that was an idiotic move! Do any of the previous mentioned fixes apply to this issue? I have the same problems since upgrading to Sometimes I get the message it’s hit and miss. But feel its all connected with Yosemite DaveRobinson Posted December 10, Give spotlight time to finish before starting work.

I didn’t get this error message at all today. In reading through the posts my computer is online all the time too. If this thing keeps happening I may try those kernel adjustments although that scares me Posted December 12, I’m now saving project with only the audio files. All plugins have been removed. I ran sequence and it still overloaded but this was without me restarting machine. I might add that I typically save as a folder and on this project I saved as a project. I do wonder if inadvertently I have some of the audio files in a remote location which is causing computer to search multiple drives.

At least this seems to have corrected my problem. After saving all audio files to the folder. Could you be a little more specific? Did you use any 3rd party applications for this? I’m very interested. I have a late MacBook and my music production came to a standstill with High Sierra and Logic In the end I clean installed High Sierra and logic reformatted the drive.

I have to avoid the new horns and strings and use a lot of tricks freezing tracks, bussing for reverb and the above mentioned simplifying video. But at least I’m back in business. I doubt the ‘solved it’ guy really did and I’m certainly not going to wait for Apple their decline is palpable. I’m guessing that folks that depend on DAWS for a living are using some kind of hardware acceleration and that may be the answer for me too unless someone here can offer evidence that upgrading to quad core will make a big difference.

Last edited by bgulian; 12th March at AM.. Reason: Typos. Jay Asher. IMHO bgulian, and I know I will take flack fo saying it,, laptops are fine for when you are on the road or in a place where you cannot have your desktop and want to get some work done, but for using a serious amount of today’s orchestral libraries, which are very RAM demanding and CPU demanding as well in some cases, it is just not up to the job, and certainly not an older one.

Oh wow thanks for sharing!! Local Man. I dunno if i’ve “solved” anything here, but that kind of reliable and solid performance has been a distant dream for me for my entire time using logic, and with YMMV of course.

But all down to a resolution swap. Reproducible and repeatable on my system. It probably won’t last beyond the next few updates so i’m freezing my system here for now never done that before.

If this info helps anyone else so much the better. Just want to update in case some one is still if having problems. I clean rolled back to Sierra and most of my load problems went away. The Logic I wish I knew what was really going on but there are so many factors involved it’s hard to rule them all out or in.

Turning off WiFi and Bluetooth has no effect. I believe Sierra is as far as my old MacBook Pro goes. I’m hoping Apple comes out with a decent replacement in June.

I’m going crazy the last couple of weeks due to cpu spikes over all four cores i5 2. Don’t use any virtual instruments except Geist, and I don’t have that selected either. If I restart Core Audio I get sound back, but it only lasts a short while before it happens again. Previously I always got system overload messages when the CPU couldn’t handle anymore.

This is much more annoying. Will try the resolution thing – I’m on a MBP with an external display, perhaps it will help to have the internal display closed down. Will also try reducing the resolution although that will suck in regard to screen real estate. I concur with what’s been said about graphics intensive tasks really weighing the CPU down. It’s ridiculous, it’s not like Logic is a 3D shooter..?? Edit: I’m pretty sure this problem started occurring after the OS I don’t have time machine set up So Sorry guys The kernel task is apparently causing a high CPU spike because it is preventing the mac from overheating using some kind of safeguard, so the more CPU you use the higher heat of your mac Apparently these Macs have an issue with the head sensor breaking And then essentially deleting the file that controls that safeguard Haters gon hate.

Hi, that was quicker than expected Note this is for the kernel task. This worked for me, might not work for you, do it at your own risk!! However I do tend to just use it for music stuff. Now I have no problems with that, and I am able to get my latency right down! Hope you guys get your head around it! The article you provided, frogslap, says be careful and goes onto state that the authors MacBook Air never gets hotter than 70 degrees.

My MBP gets too hot to touch so no thanks. However I do believe the cause is correctly stated and thanks for that. What this really says to me is that my old Mac cannot keep up with newer demands of Logic and time to buy a Mac that does not have this flaw.

Very helpful research. Ahh no way! Best of luck with your future challenges! Hi everyone. I ve been having same issues after flashing my macpro 4,1 to 5,1 and changing to 12 cores , 32go of RAM etc But “saving a copy I mean i did not even shut the arrangement and load the copied one, i was still on the one causing big frustration.

I did the operation again after rebooting the system and emptying the cache. And same! Having the project in cache memory did solve the problem. Now: -how come my computer after being firmware fashed and pimped to a more powerful beast starts getting the overload message on a project that was not having issues before?

After 6 months of creative learning, I finally got around to building my template. Before researching on the net, I reinstalled the VI I was setting up at the time thinking it may be the problem. Seemed to work the next time I opened the template, until it happened again This can’t be CPU spec related. At most, I play a few notes just to check the sound. There’s nothing going on but VIs and bussing so far. I’ll try some of the suggestions, but I have some related questions: I like to freeze my set ups when I find a sweet spot, but this ain’t it.

Should I update my OS? Anyone find superior stability on anything between
